Teens & Drugs

Over the past few years I spent in high school ( & thats 3 Of course) i met many people freshman year who seem very innocent and really quiet. the type of kids who you would never imagine doing things like drugs and things like such. I have a few questions that i need answers too.

  1. What leads teens to start trying drugs?
  2. What Can Parents do if their teens is doing drugs?
  3. Where Do They Drugs Come From?
  4. What Type of Drugs are kids doing?
  5. Whats the consequences? health wise?

What leads teens to start trying drugs?

As we all know People like friends Family Neighbors even parents Anyone who you talk to everyday influence teens to start doing drugs. Its commonly known as Peer Pressure. Teenagers see lots of people using various substances (drugs). They see their parents and other adults drinking alcohol, smoking, and, sometimes, abusing other substance. The teen social scene often spins around drinking and smoking pot. And Everyone knows that Sometimes friends best Friends what ever you want to call it push you (teens) to try a drink or smoke something, but it’s just as common for teens to start using a substance because it’s really easy to get, & they see all their friends enjoying it. In their minds (some might disagree), they see drug use as a part of the normal teenage experience. Something Everyone has tried and done before. The Popular media has alot to do with teens using drugs, Movies music etc influences teens to try drugs. teens are like that saying " Monkey see Monkey do". If they see someone like a celebrity they look up too using drugs either in a movie or even rapping or singing about it Teens think "well if whats his name is doing it it must be cool i such be doing too. i don't wanna seem lame. "Another reason is when teens are unhappy and can’t find a way to release their frustration or a trusted confidant, they may turn to drugs for help. Depending on what drug they’re using, they may feel wonderfully happy, or energized and confident. Many have claimed it helps them forget about their problems.

What Parents Can Do  if their Teen is using drugs?

Parents can start by bringing their child to a doctor who can screen for signs of drug use and other related health conditions. Parents might want to their child’s doctor in advance if he or she is comfortable screening for drug use with standard assessment tools and making a referral to an appropriate treatment.

Where do the Drugs come from?

It’s not solely with some “drug dealer” on the street corner. Most Of The Time They can be found:
In the medicine cabinet at home
At a neighbors house
Online
A friend of a friend
At schools
At parties

What Type of Drugs Are Kids Doing?
Teens will do any type of drugs from marijuana to over the counter drugs.

                  Whats the consequences? health wise?

Drugs affect many things such as our brains.

Drugs affect three primary areas of the brain:
The brain stem is in charge of all the functions our body needs to stay alive, breathing, moving blood, and digesting food. It also links the brain with the spinal cord, which runs down the back and moves muscles and limbs as well as lets the brain know what’s happening to the body.
The limbic system links together a bunch of brain structures that control our emotional responses, such as feeling pleasure when we eat chocolate. The good feelings motivate us to repeat the behavior, which is good because eating is critical to our lives.
The cerebral cortex is the mushroom-shaped outer part of the brain . In humans, it is so big that it makes up about three-fourths of the entire brain. It’s divided into four areas, called lobes, which control specific functions. Some areas process information from our senses, allowing us to see, feel, hear, and taste. The front part of the cortex, known as the frontal cortex or forebrain, is the thinking center. It powers our ability to think, plan, solve problems, and make decisions
